Minor Detail is a design studio situated in Bloomsbury, London. Bridging the intersection between design, engineering, and prototyping, the practice actualises the most demanding, high-precision, and imaginative quests. Previously commissioned work ranges from optical instruments for scientific experiments to kinetic jewellery crafted for special occasions. Rooted in traditional craftsmanship, Minor Detail employs cutting-edge technologies to push the boundary of material and mechanical possibilities.
Merging design with an ever-evolving passion for hands-on fabrication and material exploration, in 2015, Aimilios Davlantis Lo began building his prototyping studio during his bachelor of architecture studies at the Cooper Union in New York City. The studio moved to Cambridge, MA, where he attended Harvard’s Graduate School of Design MArch II program, followed by two years of professional architecture practice. In 2021, together with his wife, Yuqiao Guo, architect, painter and founder of Matter at Hand, artisanal ice cream, relocated to London, UK, where his endeavours grew to what is now Minor Detail. The studio’s ambition is to respond to the growing need for highly customised hardware in the research-based fields of science and art.
In parallel to running Minor Detail, he works at University College London (UCL) high-precision instrument-making workshop as a manufacturing engineer, supporting research staff and students in the UCL departments of Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics and Astronomy.
