The Anicca Vanitas Vase is made in casted brass, completely polished from inside and hand-filleted from outside.
The vase is like a pedestal to the perishable beauty of living things, and it is reminiscent of the „Vanitas“ paintings typical of the Baroque era. It was handcrafted by Carl Auböck V. in his family’s historical workshop in Vienna. Like all of Gruber’s pieces, this vase is intended as a physical ode to the craftsmen’s labour and to the subtle qualities of matter subject to human action. In the pursue of perfection, the excellence of craftmanship is aided by the precision of advanced manufacturing technologies. The design aims to highlight and celebrate the delicate beauty of the flowers, ensuring they remain the focal point. The mirror polishing of the inner surfaces creates a play of reflections that recall the vanquishing fabric of reality itself, hence the reference to the „Anicca“ or impermanence concept. The vase interacts with its viewer and the surrounding room, enhancing its sculptural appearance.
The vase holds water.
