The Anicca Vanitas Candlestick by Luca Gruber is made from sheet metal brass. The brass pieces are hand-polished from the outside to a mirror-like finish, while the inside is patinated to create a dark brass texture. The candlesticks vary in height to create the impression of natural growth and decay when they are combined together. Each shell and stick can be exchanged with one another. The interplay between the polished brass and the patinated inner surface reflects the tension between permanence and impermanence – a central theme of the Anicca Vanitas Collection.
