About Aku Zeliang Visit Showroom →

Aku represents the second generation of designer-entrepreneurs in his family, carrying forward a legacy rooted in craftsmanship and cultural preservation. Since the early 1990s, he has played a pivotal role in reviving and promoting hand-woven artisanal textiles from Nagaland and its neighboring states through the brand Heirloom Naga. His efforts have not only brought national recognition to these indigenous weaving traditions but have also provided sustainable livelihoods to rural artisans. In parallel, through Cane Concept, Aku has redefined regional crafts by introducing them to a contemporary design language, blending traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. His work continues to bridge the gap between heritage and innovation, placing Northeastern craft traditions on a global design map. He finds synergy between indigenous and contemporary design, seamlessly blending traditional art forms with modern aesthetics and giving them powerful representation through meaningful collaborations and curated platforms. Zeliang also seeks to elevate tribal designs to global recognition, fostering economic opportunities for artisans, uplifting community livelihoods, and actively preserving, protecting, and promoting the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities.
