Tzom planters are inspired by tzompantli walls, surfaces covered with skulls – either real or carved in stone – that provided protection to sacred spaces across Mesoamérica.
The pieces are manually sculpted in four varieties of cantera stone at the Íñiguez family workshop in Yahualica de González Gallo, a town in the state of Jalisco devoted to the carving of this material. Cantera stone is a variety of volcanic tuff spread across Mexico, and was widely used in local architecture during the colonial and post-independence periods.
Available in black, white, yellow, and pink.
