Description

This stoneware bowl, conceived as a chawan, is a functional sculpture that narrates the transformation phases of matcha tea through its materiality.

The base, adorned with three-dimensional elements, evokes foliage and nature: reliefs, highlights, and organic textures recall the leaves in their original state. Higher up, the surface becomes matte and powdery, alluding to the grinding phase, when the leaf turns into powder.

Inside, a glossy glaze represents the final stage: infusion—the transition to the liquid state.

The bowl is mounted on a brass pivot that allows it to be removed for tea preparation. Once reinserted, it rests in an inclined and seemingly unstable position, symbolizing the delicate balance between raw material and craftsmanship, between nature and artisanal work.

About Federica Paglia Visit Showroom →

Born in 1988 Federica Paglia is an artist and multidisciplinary designer who lives and works between Rome and Milan. After graduating in industrial design, and specializing in systems design, she developed her career by consolidating collaborations with renowned design studios. These allowed her to explore different design identities. She then decided to open her studio-laboratory in Rome where she works passionately on creating  pieces with a strong narrative character, combining different disciplines and materials. Her works focus on the possible connections between art, decoration, and design. Through a process that starts from the observation of everyday life and the reinterpretation of simple forms, she creates objects with sometimes invisible boundaries, where content and container merge simultaneously.
