Description

An amalgamation of recent materials explorations, The Siren Mirror is a tribute to my Filipino heritage. Inlaid genuine abalone and mother of pearl spawned from a lifelong fascination with my Lola’s seashell collection and an attempt to revive the cultural connection that slowly fades as my ancestors age or pass. Filipino legends and mythologies of sirens date back to the 1600s but remain a prevalent part of local seaside lore.

Includes a French Cleat for easy installation.

About Courtney Kinnare Visit Showroom →

Courtney Kinnare is an artist and designer based in Brooklyn known for her vibrant mirrored works and functional artistic objects. Without feeling constricted to one medium or art form, she works intuitively to create abstract works of hyper-color palettes observed in the natural world, subconsciously documented throughout her life experiences. Each work is a unique experiment that studies the interaction of color, texture, and light, while challenging traditional material uses. By recreating and inviting specific colors into a space, she hopes to build a stronger affinity towards the unnoticed details in our everyday. Fascinated with exploring new skills like glassblowing, metalwork, and 3D printing to bring her concepts to life, Courtney looks forward to expanding her practice further into the design industry this year. Her work continues to celebrate the joy of experimentation - reminding us of the child-like wonder that art-making and the surrounding world can hold.
