The Orí Shelf by Nina Coimbra is a piece inspired by African Brazilian religions such as Ifá, Candomblé and Umbanda. It makes reference do an important entity “Orí”, considered one of the most important entities for it is individual and responsible for taking care of one’s “head”. In this piece, there is a wood top in the shape of a dome which holds a “headpiece” made from more than 3000 natural cowshells, while the circumfrence is covered in a natural cowshell curtain, that creates a “sacred” and “safe” space inside the piece, a place to put your power objects of special meaning. There is an intent by the artist designer to re-enchant objects from our quotidien, in the attempt to rethink our relationship with objects and consumerism.
The Shelf is made with Jequitibá Rosa wood, Brass details and more than 7000 Natural Cowshells
