In the piece Ocellus by Whymsicals, patterns of motion and fluctuations of Junonia orithya against wind display a formal transformation on the wings. This, in turn, creates complexity and turbulence in the environment, creating an overall theatrical composition. Through biomimicry, the glass compositions capture this elegance in the innovative process of kiln-formed glass. The process entails producing molds that are first routed and then sculpted.
Although the design articulates the molds, the slumping process creates room for unpredictability and uniqueness in the pieces due to the play of depth and parameters in the kiln.
Three kiln-formed glass compositions are frosted and lined white with mirrors and installed on a back steel structure.
