Knot Stool by Studio Yann Gandon x Maxime Sauce
Following its presentation at Paris Design Week in September 2025, the Knot Stool is now available for sale.
The Knot Stool emerges from research into alternative joinery methods, eliminating the need for glue, screws, or bolts. Instead, the stool is held together using a simple yet effective system of knots and ropes, inspired by different lashing techniques.
By reimagining traditional joinery, the Knot Stool offers a fresh perspective on conscious design, where simplicity and ingenuity are paramount.
We intentionally chose aluminium, a perennial and adaptable material, to shift the focus onto the innovative assembly technique. This contrast highlights the structural role of the rope, allowing it to become the defining feature of the design.
The stool combines laser-cut aluminium with precisely placed openings that guide the rope, ensuring both structural stability and a refined, modern aesthetic.
Developed through a series of iterative tests, the geometry of the four elements reflects a process of careful calibration, optimizing the relationship between material, structure, and form to achieve a balanced and unique composition.
The Knot Stool is available in different rope colors, please choose which color you would like.
