Gestures by Whymsicals is a series of rhythmic glass sculptures embodying nature’s motion’s fluid grace. Inspired by biomimicry, these self-standing glass pieces draw from the hyperbolic crochet forms found in marine animals. The ruffled, mantle-like structures that allow these creatures to glide effortlessly underwater are reimagined in glass, capturing their organic elegance. The design process involves intricate drawing and modeling of these forms to create molds, transforming fluid motion into solid, structural folds. Each piece comes alive through the interplay of light and translucency, offering a dynamic visual experience that echoes the natural rhythms of the underwater world.
Four kiln-formed glass pieces are installed on a powder-coated steel structure. Available as a self-standing sculpture.
