Swati Jain (she/they) is a transdisciplinary architect, artist, and researcher focusing on sociocultural, ecological, and multisensory approaches to foster collective empathy and equitable design. Born in India and based in New York City, her work revolves around themes of gender, identity, and phenomenological embodiment. Jain holds a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, is a scholarship recipient at The New Centre in Transdisciplinary Studies & Curatorial Practice and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Mumbai. She was also an artist-in-residence at the School of Visual Arts NYC, Datatopia Fellow at Floating University and has pursued post-graduate degrees in Indian aesthetics, critical theory, aesthetics, and practice. With six years of diverse experience, her projects span exhibition design, institutional and historic preservation, residential, interior design and urban design in both New York City and Mumbai. Jain wrote and directed the film Kitchen Evolution, which has been exhibited at The Kitchen NYC, SAWCC, and The Tank NYC (off-Broadway theater) and distributed by Mubi and Printed Matter. She presented the film at AIA Center for Architecture, New York, and at Femmes of the Future. Her collection of sculptural furniture titled "Transcendental Phenomenology", has been showcased at WantedDesign ICFF NYC, Ely Center of Contemporary Art, GoodNaked Gallery, Upstate Art Weekend, SVA Exhibition Metamorphosis, Museum Textile’s Threads of Tomorrow, Collectible NY and The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. Jain's work has been featured in New York Curbed, Interior Design Magazine, Design Milk, STIRpad, Pale Blue Mag, among others.
