Description

Gedrimaitė explores the dialectic between the vessel as material and conceptual formation. The artist is interested in the utilitarian foundation of a vessel and new possibilities of use. By universalizing the meaning of a vessel, the ceramicist reduces recognition of an object until only a trace remains. Using the technical methods of creating and deconstructing ceramics, Gedrimaitė presents the objects of an imaginary function, which are not necessarily related to the original purpose, giving them a new concept as a vessel.

“Double” is a one of a kind, functional stoneware vase. The idea of it was shaped from the uniqueness of natural soil and human intervention.
Exterior – raw stoneware; interior – glazed, fired 1250°C.
