Description
The creation of the Bucha Soberana cabinet was inspired by curiosity about the Luffa (known scientifically as luffa cylindrica), which is a kind of tropical vine with a sponge-like texture that is abundant in the Bonfim region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Since the designer’s first contact with the raw material, they remained fascinated by it. In this work, they experimented with Luffa’s textural and sculptural possibilities by creating a delicate, hand-sewn scale mesh that operates as an organic skin for the piece. To create an interesting textural counterpoint to the Luffa’s rugged, natural appearance, the designers chose to add the nobility and sleekness of brass.
