Studio Daae's founder, Michael Daae Christensen, is a designer whose work navigates the space between structure and spontaneity. Born and raised in Denmark, he studied furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he was immersed in the traditions of form, function, and restraint. In 2016, he relocated to New York for an internship, and eventually stayed for the intensity and unpredictability that the city offered as a counterpoint to his roots.
Over the years, Michael has shaped his perspective through working with architecture studios, design firms, and retail furniture brands. These varied experiences served as a kind of material and design apprenticeship, informing an approach that remains open, curious, and unbound by genre. In 2024, he founded his own practice as a way to explore the expansive world of design on his own terms.
His work spans disciplines, categories and materials. Rather than starting with a fixed palette or process, Michael allows each project to define its own needs. The result is a body of work that feels both deliberate and free—where precision meets play, and simplicity is often complicated by a subtle twist. Rooted in Scandinavian simplicity infused by the eclectic energy of New York, his practice seeks not to resolve opposites, but to let them coexist.
