Biography

An element of surprise always at hand — Claudia Schoemig designs and crafts delicate, contemporary porcelain objects in her Berlin studio for intriguing interiors and tablescapes. Her work is marked by its light and poetic nature, her filigree vessels captivate viewers with their serenity and sensuality. Schoemig combines a wiede range of refined artisanal techniques and advanced production methods with individual techniques developed by herself, backed by her vast expertise in the field of ceramics and porcelain.
She founded Schoemig Porzellan in 2010 with the launch of her first GRAPH objects. Her studio has since evolved into a lab for experimental research, an exploration space for one-of-a-kind creations, a manufacturing site for her collections and a showroom, all-in-one.
Her characteristic, linear hand drawings remain recurring features in her work. Schoemig is adept at the rare and demanding skill of hand-throwing porcelain. Her ever-evolving portfolio emerges from an ‘everything under one roof’ approach. This encompasses designing, prototyping, turning, hand-drawing and painting on porcelain, slipcasting, hand-building, mold-making and more.
Over the years, Schoemig has immersed herself in fine dining spheres and collaborated closely with chefs, amongst them Eric Vildgaard (Restaurant Jordnaer, Copenhagen), Octàvio Freitas (Desarma, Madeira) and Sebastian Frank (Horváth, Berlin). All her objects are made to enrich and inspire everyday life, create beautiful experiences and enhance atmospheres of places.
Her work was on show in exhibition venues around the globe such as New York design week, Milan Design week, Beijing Design Week, Biennale Revelation in Paris, Frueplads Fair of the Danish Arts and Crafts Association in Copenhagen, Museum for Arts and Crafts in Berlin.
