Domingo Tótora’s “Vereda” bench is made from the designer’s signature material: recycled cardboard. In a certifiably sustainable process, Tótora breaks the discarded material up into small pieces and turns it into a pulp that he uses as the basis for furniture, objects and sculptures. Each piece is molded by hand, dried in the sun, and finished to perfection, completing the material’s full life-cycle: in this reflective, labor-intensive process, the cardboard, which originated as wood, is essentially brought back to its original state by the designer, who uses it in the same way he would use that organic material.
