Description

Small but mighty, the MushLume Cup Light Pendant features our smallest diameter design, perfectly sized to showcase the unique texture of the sustainable mushroom mycelium material. Ideal for eco-conscious spaces, it creates a striking effect whether hung solo or in a series for a cloud-like lighting arrangement.

MushLume is an award-winning biofabricated lighting collection that is GROWN, not manufactured, from mycelium—the roots of mushrooms. The lampshades are made by combining sustainably sourced hemp with mycelium, a rapidly renewable organism. In just a few days, the mycelium grows and binds to the hemp, forming a solid structure in custom molds. Once fully grown, the lampshades are dried and heated, resulting in a stable, biodegradable product.

By tapping into a unique material science that uses mushroom mycelium, we can begin to reimagine a more sustainable future, one in which natural resources are not extracted from nature, but rather are grown in a lab. And where production processes require very little energy or water. Most importantly, when the product is at the end of its lifecycle, it can safely return to the Earth adding nutrients back to the soil rather than lasting for hundreds of years or releasing toxins.

In 2014, Danielle launched the MushLume Lighting collection during NYCxDESIGN—creating the first-ever lighting collection that is GROWN, not manufactured, from mycelium—the roots of mushrooms. Since 2014, MushLume Lighting has now grown into its own brand and company growing and selling biofabricated lighting to the global markets.
