The Oppse Chair by Hakan Kemal is designed to infuse energy and emotion into the living space—proving that furniture can be more than functional. With its vibrant metallic orange finish, this bold piece aims to spark feelings of excitement, playfulness, and curiosity.
Inspired by the idea of opposition, the design challenges conventional seating forms by rotating the typical rectangular seat 45 degrees. This shift not only alters the geometry but also invites a different ergonomic experience. The chair’s name—Oppse—is a play on the word “opposite,” reflecting the designer’s intention to explore unconventional balance and structure.
The three-legged construction draws from the Persian term “sehpa” (seh: three, pa: foot), a nod to the surprising stability of a tripod form. Recognizing how a person’s center of gravity shifts backward when seated, Kemal positioned two legs at the rear and one at the front corner, ensuring both balance and visual tension. The angular back support, reinforced with sculptural rib-like elements, extends into a bent form that functions as a handle—completing the chair’s dynamic silhouette.
Both sculptural and provocative, the Oppse Chair invites users to question their expectations—of form, function, and the simple act of sitting.
It provides balance with its three-legged structure and offers back support suitable for sitting ergonomics. It is made by fiberglass method.
