The esteemed European design showcase, Collectible, is poised to mark its United States premiere, aligning with The Armory Show in New York City this coming September. The initiative, spearheaded by founders Clélie Debehault and Liv Vaisberg, emerges on the international scene as they inaugurate the seventh iteration in Brussels, highlighting the realm of modern collectible design.
The selection of New York as a strategic expansion point reflects a mutual desire among European and American designers to bridge their creative outputs and audiences, fostering a vibrant exchange that feels inherently fitting.
At the heart of New York’s financial district, Collectible’s first American foray will unfold within the expansive Water Street Projects – a 50,000-square-foot venue dedicated to the contemporary arts, nestled within the WSA building. Scheduling this event from 5 to 8 September, parallel to The Armory Show, Collectible aims to carve out an exclusive niche for 21st-century collectible design in the metropolis.
Debehault and Vaisberg envision this occasion as a distinctive complement to New York’s Salon Art + Design fair in November, offering a focus on contemporary creations while the latter spans works from the 19th century to the present.
Originating in Brussels in 2017, Collectible has established itself as a pivotal platform for design galleries, institutions, and independent studios, alongside a section devoted to showcasing emerging talent. This New York edition promises to highlight an eclectic mix of local and European galleries and designers, embracing the warm reception and burgeoning gallery scene and initiatives New York has offered to Collectible.
This announcement arrives as Milan’s design entity, Alcova, unveiled its Miami edition during Design Miami last December, with Design Miami also announcing its expansion to Los Angeles for a debut Californian edition in May 2024.
Scheduled to grace Water Street Projects in New York City from 5 to 8 September 2024, Collectible NYC aims to become a landmark event, enriching the global architecture and design event landscape.
