The _charred-edge furniture_ series by Subin bae begins with an intention to clearly recognize fixed forms and moments of stillness. This perspective expands through a metaphor drawn from metal welding — a process in which intense heat fuses two distinct materials into one. Subin Bae applied this concept to wood. By burning wood, a material highly vulnerable to heat, they attempted a form of “welding” that is not physical but visual and conceptual.
The charred surface, with its unpredictable textures and tones, embodies a sense of randomness and vitality. Rather than erasing, fire leaves behind a stronger imprint — one that anchors memory and traces more firmly in place.
The _Wood Welding_ series seeks to evoke new sensory dialogues between conflicting materials. Through the tension between wood and metal, combustion and stillness, fragility and strength, the work redefines our perception of familiar objects and materials.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause yellowing of resin.
