Description

With its painterly surface and subtle form, the table lamp “Verve” embraces the lyrical ambience of light and colour. Inspired by the blooming silhouettes of nature and the palette of Post-Impressionist painters, the lamp is, in itself, a piece of decorative art.

Crafted entirely from a material consisting of coloured recycled glass particles and pigmented bio-based resin, the lamp presents a distinct range of translucency. The dimmable light reveals glowing contours of form, transforming the lampshade from opaque and dense when turned off to shimmering and airy when turned on. With its deeply saturated hues, yet blurred and gentle glow, the lamp creates an atmosphere of warm tactility within the interior. The shape balances modern simplicity with the sensual lines of wrapped, leaf-like surfaces, while the technicality of the cord fixture is subtly elevated as an integral design component.

The lamps are part of an ongoing collection in which each item is unique due to its handcrafted nature. Each piece is initially cast flat, and the thin slab of material is treated almost like a painting—with splashes of colour. It is then carefully wrapped around a mould to achieve the desired shape, resulting in a structure that is both sturdy and lightweight. Delving into the intersection of painting, sculpture, and functionality, the collection is intended to evolve freely with alternate colour compositions, creating a poetic assemblage.

Customisation of the electrical fixture and cord length is available upon request for pieces made to order.

About Justyna Poplawska Visit Showroom →

Justyna Poplawska is a Polish-born, Copenhagen-based designer whose work explores the poetic and tactile potential of materials - particularly those based on recycled glass - at the intersection of painting, sculpture, and functional design. Central to her practice is a deep fascination with surfaces and the transformation of raw, often discarded, matter into richly textured design objects. Working primarily with a self-developed composite material composed of recycled glass, bioresin, and pigments, Poplawska creates pieces with subtle, expressive surfaces. The coloured glass is collected as waste from local glassmakers and processed through a laborious grinding technique to produce a range of particle sizes. The resulting surface reveals a delicate interplay of glass particles and colour, creating a subtle, textured composition. Each object is shaped through careful, hands-on techniques such as casting, sanding, and polishing. Poplawska’s background in both fine art and design shapes her interdisciplinary approach. She first studied glass and traditional art practices at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, Poland, and later earned her design degree from the Royal Danish Academy – Architecture, Design, Conservation in Copenhagen. This dual education informs her sensitivity to form, colour, and craft. Through her work, Poplawska investigates how materiality, colour, and process can evoke emotion and enrich spatial experiences. Drawing on both historical techniques and contemporary methods, she creates design objects that embody quiet complexity and refined material expression.
