“VANITAS” is the new rubber vase series of Birgit Severin. Flowers are a symbol of beauty and youth. Simultaneously in their decay, they become reminders of life’s brevity and the inevitability of death.
Trying to capture the beauty of each stage of life, Birgit created vases inspired by the form and colors of withering flowers. Their production process utilizes 3D printing, rubber rotation casting, and freehand modeling to produce a flowing, matte surface overlayed with a sparkling pattern of jewel-like dots.
The Vanitas Mid vase is made of rubber with a brass ring base. The vase is available in beige.

“Revealing the relationships between people and objects is the aim of our approach. It allows us to see ourselves as part of a bigger picture - a complex system - we belong to and live in.” (Birgit Severin) “We create narrative objects which reflect about past and present while opening up to alternative futures. ” (Guillaume Neu-Rinaudo) Studio B Severin explores culture and society by re-designing objects and materials. The studio is based in Berlin and run by the French-German duo Birgit Severin and Guillaume Neu-Rinaudo. Objects are extensions of our body and mind, making this connection explicit is the aim of “studio b severin”s design approach. Based on research, taking psychological, anthropological, and philosophical questions into account, the outcomes are objects which through their function and aesthetic transmit their implicit message. Their work has been shown nationally and internationally at prestigious museums, biennales, and fairs. The studio collaborates with curators, galleries, and companies while sharing their vision and thoughts workshop and lectures.
Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times. Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M. Organised by Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden, Southern Sweden Design Days is an annual event currently in its second edition, which highlights sustainability, collaboration, development, and innovation in design. This year’s theme, as described by the event organisers, “[reflects] on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species, professions, etc”. The physical exhibition of “PROXIMITY” will take place at Lokstallarna, Södra Bulltoftavägen 51, 212 22 Malmö from 19 - 22 May 2022.
