Description

The Splitted Arrow by Teun Zwets is a sculptural object that carries the same raw energy and intuitive craftsmanship found throughout his Splitted collection. It is made from Douglas Fir beams that are split with an axe, revealing bold textures and the irregular beauty of natural wood grain. These fractured pieces are reassembled into the abstract form of an arrow, its joins and surface variations kept visible as a record of the making process. Once constructed, the piece is carefully sanded and finished in a high gloss lacquer, which deepens the colour and accentuates every ridge, split, and contour. The result is a work that is both playful and precise, bridging the spontaneity of its creation with a polished final presence. The idea for the Splitted series began when Zwets noticed the striking forms of split firewood and experimented with turning them into functional and sculptural works. The arrow embodies this origin, its shape suggesting direction and movement while remaining open to interpretation. Presented at Dutch Design Week, it reflects Zwets’s way of thinking through making, allowing the process to guide the outcome rather than following a fixed plan. Each Splitted Arrow is unique, carrying its own markings, proportions, and energy, celebrating the beauty of working directly with wood and embracing the unexpected results of hands-on creation.

About Teun Zwets Visit Showroom →

Teun Zwets (1992) is a Dutch designer who prefers to work without a fixed plan. His approach is characterized by spontaneity, intuition, and a hefty dose of boldness. What makes Teun unique is his unguarded way of designing: he dives into his workshop and lets himself be guided by what he encounters. His creations often arise from impulsive discoveries and unexpected material combinations. This freedom results in pieces full of energy and playfulness, where he finds beauty in things others might overlook.
