Kristine Engelbrecht’s RELIEF series of wallhangings is based on a textile she produced in 2015. In these wood-block works, the composition is drawn from the textures and the colors of the textile, but it is given layers, depth and shadow by its three-dimensional structure. Produced originally in May of 2016 for “3 Days of Design,” a design festival in Copenhagen, and exhibited at Artstop, which was curated by Super Objekt and Charlotte Jul, the RELIEF wallhangings are produced by Engelbrecht at Statens Værksteder for Kunst/the Danish art workshops. To date, she has created four distinct RELIEF series, each one shaped by different sizes, depths and compositional elements.
