Description

NEFERTITI is conceived as a flexible modular element that can be assembled in various ways (array, totem, wall, shelf, etc.) or used as a freestanding object. Magnetic devices are positioned at the top, back, and bottom of the lighting element. A steel plate in the same color as the luminaire also allows an appliqué solution, i.e. a composition according to different motifs or matrices. The interplay between rigorous geometry and playful color, the unsettling reflection of the lamp and its space on the 45-degree mirrored panel make Nefertiti a mysterious object open to multiple interpretations. Despite its bold appearance, Nefertiti is made of folded/ bonded aluminum, which gives the design an incredible lightness and an exceptional sharpness to the corners that would otherwise be impossible to achieve.

NEFERTITI’s sculptural nature gives it a certain object-like autonomy beyond its function. When switched off, the lamp is a sculpture. When switched on, the light reveals an intriguing subtraction of volume, a feature of this object that provokes the viewer. Each configuration of NEFERTITI evokes different memories: a head, the cornice of a Renaissance palazzo, the guttae of an ancient temple, and so on. The enigmatic presence of this object coincides with its infinite possibilities of interpretation. The playfulness of the colour palette, cyan, magenta and green, challenges the rigorous and almost monumental volume of the lamp, creating a short-circuit in the object itself.

NEFERTITI was first presented in 2022 at the Assabone space on the occasion of the Fuorisalone (Salone del Mobile di Milano). It is the result of an interplay between different strategies and references that initially gave the work the title “When Donald met Jimmy, then Aldo came over”. This name-dropping, chosen to enshrine a semiotic game, was then replaced by the more synthetic “Nefertiti”. The piece has been presented at ALCOVA Miami 2024 and EDIT Napoli 2024.

Nefertiti has EU certification. It is also available with US compatible wiring.
