Description

Triangular-shaped High Table | Wooden high table supported by Limestone x Sand x Palm Sheath and tiled legs with oxide.

The exploration of Emirati local materials, local architecture methods, and local crafts shaped this exhibition design which is centred around a sequence of tables inhabiting various rooms, each acting as both a communal setting and display surface. The tables treat the collection almost as artefacts, arranged and sorted on an archaeological and geological sifting table. The use of the muted wooden plinths allows the table to be read as a background condition, a neutral frame on which the items from the collection can be displayed as objects.

Alongside the wooden plinths, the use of the palm sheath, frankincense, sand, oyster shells, and limestone-based bricks and tiles create an architectural scenography of sculptural columns and tiled planes which highlight the architectural capacity of the new elements developed by Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council (ICCC) and the American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) Design Labs II research fellowship, while also not detracting from the other design objects. This installation is conceived by Civil Architecture and designed by Mr. Lawrence studio.
