Yvonne Mak’s installation features printed textiles that mimic sun-bleached curtains, shaped by years of sunlight exposure. Faded patterns appear on the fabric, creating the illusion of windows where there are none. This subtle trick of the mind, suggesting more daylight and openness, can enhance feelings of wellbeing and happiness indoors.
Studies show that even visual references to natural elements, like sunlight and windows, can reduce stress and improve mood. The installation taps into this principle, creating a space that feels lighter, more open, and emotionally comforting, especially in interior settings with limited access to natural light.
By reflecting on traces of time, light, and presence, the installation subtly hints at the quieter rhythms of change in our environment. What first appears as a calming interior gesture also becomes a poetic reminder of the marks we leave behind on objects, on spaces, and on the planet.
Every fabric installation consists of 1,40 meter wide fabric panels. Unhemmed sides will naturally ruffle over time; for a crisp finish, sides can be sewn upon request. Custom-made upon request.
