Description

Fruits Of Vulnerability- wall hanging piece, handwoven aluminium wire, with elements of sand casted fruits, is part of an introspective and deeply personal body of work and first solo exhibition of Ia Kutateladze, with the same name, that explores the artist’s more than decade-long battle with an eating disorder. This body of work is a raw and honest expression of self-worth, body image, and other mental health struggles associated with this issue. Seeking to confront and communicate the complexities of their journey, hoping to foster a dialogue about these very often stigmatised issues, to heal through artistic expression.

Ia Kutateladze is a multidisciplinary designer and artist from Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2016, she moved to Berlin, where she has sense lived and worked. From 2019, she opened her own studio where she works on different materials, creating functional and non-functional, explorative objects. A quest to directly connect personal and surrounding emotional and psychological processes with the material and form exploration. Be it symbolic or more literal. Trying to explore the link between emotions, thoughts and life processes and how they would be translated into the material and form experimentation and research. Interpreting different psychological states and ways of being, memories and other personal occurrences into physical objects and shapes. These are currently the main themes for my creative practice.
