Description

Drawing from Wifredo Lam’s The Jungle, Ojú and Ewa reimagine the interplay of human and plant forms through the language of masks that speak of identity and renewal. Handcrafted from beech wood, each chair translates this dialogue into sculptural expression, Ojú with a mask-like face and Ewa with lines that rise and twist like tropical stalks. Together, they echo the abstract silhouettes of Lam’s figures, carrying their rhythm into space, where movement and gesture tell a story. Within an interior, their presence brings a sense of ceremony, reflecting traces of Afro-Caribbean heritage through layered symbolism.

For indoor use only.
Crafted from solid beech wood; natural grain variations may occur.

About Animate Objects Visit Showroom →

Animate Objects aims to reimagine furniture and bring a fresh new perspective to the design scene by merging different fields of art. The brand strives for creating theatrical environments with its statement pieces that tell visual stories while functioning as furniture. A chair is more than a chair, and an interior can be seen as more than a living space. Animate Objects invites you to think out of the box and create an authentic place by offering a thoughtfully curated décor and collectible furniture. All products are made of honest natural materials carefully handcrafted in Istanbul, Turkey by the most experienced local artisans from varied fields. The brand’s main focus is to deliver soulful pieces to create animated interiors. Each piece is limited edition and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Zeynep Satık, founder and designer of Animate Objects, graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design (London /UK) with the degree of Performance Design and Practice. During the time, she worked with several professionals from varied industries such as fashion, advertisement, and film. Returning to her home country, Turkey, she created a multidisciplinary design agency where she gained further experience. Designing sets and stages for fashion week, tv talk shows, campaign & editorial shoots reinforced her visual language and broadened her perspective. Zeynep’s desire to establish dialogues between space, color, and form resulted in founding Animate Objects. By doing so, she discovered a new way of telling stories via objects: creating a sense of persona for the furniture, composing animated interiors, and offering eclectic yet functional art objects for your environment.
