Description

BEHOLD:BECOME are a limited edition of unique pieces. The ceramic sculptures are made in two sizes. At stake here is the interaction between the intended shape and the organic growth as two principles of design.

On small pedestals, organic shapes are frozen in poses. The organic shapes are made from plant material collected in nature and preserved in porcelain. The fragile natural imprints break into smaller pieces in the first fire and are reused in loosely stacked structures on top of the base. In the second fire the glazes develop, take shape and the base and top are unified in a tableau– a snapshot of a movement.

The white perfection of the porcelain is contrasted by the rich and complex textures of the glazes revealing the beauty in both.

About the designer

Signe Fensholt

Signe Fensholt is a Copenhagen based ceramic artist. In her work she leaves part of the creative process to the magic of the ceramic materials and the natural forces in the ceramic kiln. Like a choreographer she sets the stage, give her instructions and let go. The transformation of soil and dust into sparkling surfaces and crisp shapes is still visible as traces of creation. The performative aspect of ceramic materials is a focal point in the way she works as well as in the final results. She works in the interface between design and art keeping a reference to a shape or a function that we easily recognize but with another agenda than finding a solution for a practical need. She graduated 2018 from The Royal Danish Academy of Design. Since her graduation she has been selected for major exhibitions and has received several grants for her artistic practice.

Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times. Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M. Organised by Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden, Southern Sweden Design Days is an annual event currently in its second edition, which highlights sustainability, collaboration, development, and innovation in design. This year’s theme, as described by the event organisers, “[reflects] on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species, professions, etc”. The physical exhibition of “PROXIMITY” will take place at Lokstallarna, Södra Bulltoftavägen 51, 212 22 Malmö from 19 - 22 May 2022.
