The Barricade Daybed No. 3 by Around the Studio is a sculptural stainless steel furniture piece that reimagines the forms of resistance and division found in urban landscapes. Inspired by the ongoing demonstrations and political unrest in Tbilisi, the design transforms police barricades—symbols of control and protest—into an intimate, functional structure.

True to its inspiration, the curved legs mirror the handles of barricades, while the linear frame preserves their industrial rigidity, creating a tension between opposition and comfort. This version features an extended backrest, surpassing the length of the seating area, introducing a striking asymmetry that enhances both visual movement and practical use. One side gracefully curves into a distinct corner, reinforcing the structure’s fluidity and sculptural presence.

This bed comes with mattresses in different colors. Each mattress is made from found fabric, making every piece unique.
The Barricade Bed N3 is fixed and cannot be disassembled.

Around the Studio is an interdisciplinary collective founded by Tika Shelia and Ano Jishkariani, based in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 2021. The Studio explores cultural, social, and political themes through multidisciplinary projects that merge community engagement and collaboration. The studio employs a diverse range of practices, including object design, installation, and relational or video art. Their practice focuses on transforming objects and materials that emerge from collective actions into functional, everyday items. By reimagining public symbols as domestic objects, Around the Studio creates a dialogue between personal environments and larger societal movements.
