About the designer

Solum Lignum

Solum Lignum is an artist-designer-maker studio formed by Anaïs Mroz and Simon Boullier, whose inspiring ecosystem is set in the heart of the Sologne forest in the center of France.

Imagine a clearing in the shade of century-old oaks: it’s there in Sologne that Anaïs and Simon create the Solum Lignum studio in 2019, as a nod to the natural region that had just opened its doors to them. In a few months, they literally change their lives and decide that they will spend the next few years here, inventing, creating, making and finding their place in this bubbling ecosystem.

A 27,000 m2 park just for contemplating, imagining and inventing, because most of their ideas are born outdoors, by a pond or a poplar tree. « Outside, the energy of the place is in constant motion, no two days are alike. Each season gives a different perspective to creativity. »

They are reinventing a calmer, more exciting daily life, devoting themselves mainly to creation. The studio is bright and opens to nature through large windows, it was also important for them to be able to make in an inspiring space.

Driven by a constant search for beauty and originality, Anaïs and Simon imagine pieces that are the result of many hours of research and work. Mainly unique pieces or very limited series.

Living in harmony with nature, they are concerned about environmental issues and strive to reduce the impact of their works on natural resources.

Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times. Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M. Organised by Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden, Southern Sweden Design Days is an annual event currently in its second edition, which highlights sustainability, collaboration, development, and innovation in design. This year’s theme, as described by the event organisers, “[reflects] on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species, professions, etc”. The physical exhibition of “PROXIMITY” will take place at Lokstallarna, Södra Bulltoftavägen 51, 212 22 Malmö from 19 - 22 May 2022.
