OPEN CALL:
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA

ADORNO is calling all designers, makers, and studios from South Korea to apply to join our global community. Accepted applicants will be invited to become a member of ADORNO, and get the opportunity to be curated by Sandy Park for our upcoming campaign spotlighting Seoul as one of the most progressive design destinations in the world.

Sandy Park, based in New York, is currently Global Sales Director at STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN. Sandy Park brings experience from previous roles at Roman and Williams, The Future Perfect, 10 Corso Como and BDDW. She curated an exhibition of 8 South Korean artists while at The Future Perfect, bringing together Korean vernacular of traditional crafts with contemporary material culture through a variety of materials and techniques, called ì •Jeong. Wanting to highlight talent from her own heritage and background, Sandy works mostly in the design sector and is most interested in bridging the gap between artist and client to bring authenticity, transparency, as well as engagement.

Thank you for your interest in joining Adorno! In case you didn't know, Adorno is not just another e-commerce platform. We work as a gallery where we through close collaboration support our members with promotion, press coverage, advice, exhibitions, sales, and shipping. We showcase unique or limited-edition contemporary design & functional art, spanning the fields of furniture, textiles, lighting, ceramics, sculpture, and wearables. We only work with independent designers, studios, and crafts artists creating objects that are contemporary in style, experimental in approach, and exceptional in material quality. If you can relate to this we might be a great fit for each other!

The membership gives equal access to our services and international client base and is charged on a monthly basis with a fixed low commission on sales. Our members are typically introduced to Adorno through referrals, our in-house curation team, or our international network of curators. Makers who have not been invited are welcome to introduce themselves here to be vetted for inclusion. We receive many applications and can’t guarantee acceptance. Please allow 2-4 weeks for our curators to review your application.

Adorno is an invite-only platform managed by our curation team and our international network of curators, to ensure we maintain the highest quality. To become a member of Adorno, the designer or studio must be accepted by our curators. Makers who have not been invited are welcome to introduce themselves here to be vetted for inclusion.

We showcase only unique or limited-edition contemporary design & functional art, spanning the fields of furniture, textiles, lighting, ceramics, sculpture, and wearables. We sell to a wide variety of collectors, anything from lower-priced decor to highly collectible statement pieces.

We are looking for makers working independently at the intersection of design, art, and crafts, creating unique contemporary works, spanning the fields of functional art. Besides that, we look carefully at your work to consider if we will be able to provide value to your practice. If you are not accepted, it doesn’t mean your work is not good – usually it’s because your work is out of scope for our audience or because your practice and consistency in style are not developed enough.

We spend considerable time and resources on curating, presenting, promoting the members of the ADORNO community, and ship the orders we generate. Thus we ask for a small monthly fee to ensure our competent team can be at your service throughout your membership. Besides the monthly fee, we charge a fixed low commission on every sale.

Currently, while writing this, Adorno is working with only a handful of the best designers from 50+ countries across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North America, and South America. We are always looking to expand to new and interesting design scenes, so if you are not in any of the above, please don’t hesitate to apply and we will consider expanding to your region.

We receive many applications and can’t guarantee acceptance. Please allow 1-2 weeks for our curators to review your application.
