Volokhova Porcelain is based in Berlin since 2010. In past years Volokhova Porcelain exhibited at various shows in Europe, Asia and USA and received numerous awards.
Volokhova’s porcelain is a mix and a borderline between art and design as well as on the frontier between the functional and the figurative. Her works challenge the porcelain tradition by experimenting with traditional technique and decoration in order to respond to contemporary questions.
Based on well-known masterpieces of art, mixing it, adding irritated and unusual solutions Volokhova Porcelain transfers pure aesthetics and functionality creating a new facet of Porcelain design.
Her pieces subvert conventional notions of functionality: these items are neither intended purely for domestic use, nor for distanced observation. Volokhova´s Porcelain calls to the viewer in the manner of an item that is both exquisite and quotidian.
Maria Volokhova studied Painting /Printmaking in Germany, Italy and USA. Since 2006 Volokhova started to use porcelain as a material creating functional objects on the boarder between the Fine Arts and the Product Design. She studied Ceramics at the Tokyo University of the Arts and get practiced at several porcelain manufactories in Germany.
Projects and works have received numerous awards, and were exhibited internationally in Europe, Asia , USA and South America.
Inspired by the shapes and structures of body Volokhova´s abstract objects are both reminiscent of their original shapes and simultaneously newly developed objects. Each object begs to be deciphered.
Designer and artist seeks for unusual techniques and ideas that are based on the European traditional porcelain manufacturing and de-touched notion of objects taking the works onto a new level of emotional interaction between the object and the user.
