Studio MOTO architects was founded in 2017 by Mo Vandenberghe (1983, Ghent) and Thomas Hick (1978, Liège) after a close collaboration at Robbrecht en Daem architects.
Driven by the joy of design, they seek a balance between the everyday and the adventurous. Their designs consider the spatial, cultural, and historical context, starting from a profound analysis and research of the task at hand within an existing reality. Their first furniture collection, Stack, is a playful family of stackable furniture, constructed from a limited number of aluminum components. These components can be used to create aluminum cabinets, shelves, totems, side tables, and coffee tables. The system originated more from a practical necessity than from a desire to make a grand design statement. When they, at their architecture firm studio MOTO, unsuccessfully searched for an archive cabinet with a timeless design that could adapt to changing situations and grow with their office, they designed a system themselves.
