Biography

Samuel Tomatis graduated in 2016 from the ENSCI – Les Ateliers with honours, after graduating from the Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués with honours. Ambassador of a work on algae in the world of contemporary design, he is finalist of the Audi Talents in 2017. The same year, he won the Agora grant for design, chaired by Erwan Bouroullec. In 2019, he took up residence at the Ateliers de Paris. In parallel, his work is exhibited at La Fabrique du Vivant at the Centre Pompidou – some of his pieces are now in the museum's collection. Finalist of the 14th edition of the Design Parade, he exhibits his Alga project at the Villa Noailles. Finally, he won the Déclic Jeune grant from the Fondation de France also in 2019.
The designer has a close relationship with science and ecology. His work oscillates between industrial design and ephemeral architecture. Seduced by the sea and the tidal phenomenon, his research revolves around the universe of marine resources, and, more particularly, seaweed. Samuel works with a variety of trades, including scientists and craftspeople. Experimentation, material work, and eco-design are at the heart of his approach.
