Hi, I'm MARUXI/MARU/MARIA MURPHY. I'm an artist/designer/maker who previously studied in Design Academy Eindhoven. I like working big, loud and creating pieces that invite people and go beyond what meets the eye. My pieces usually consist of me going to the scrap yard, finding an old mechanical scrap with an integrated movement and bringing that movement into a new, more playful context. By using the welding machine as a drawing tool, I found my sculptural identity: stepping away from the constricted straight lines and focusing more on fluidity and texture. I experiment with the ways we can live in art, diving into a world where objects seem to be alive. I crave an interaction. My objective is to create a clear trajectory for the audience to fully feel comfortable to engage with my work. There are no rules on how to interact with them, rather just letting your curiosity be the engine behind your experience.
