Biography |
Georg Foster's work is predominantly process driven. Be it in the details or in the overall construction outcome is the direct response to the production methods, be it cutting, carving, burning, casting or projecting. His work is at the interface of industrial design, material research and traditional craftsmanship.
He strives for his work to be accessible and not superficial. The themes or reuse and hyper local production as he likes to call it run through all his projects. These principles often serve as the initial inspiration and guideline in his creative process.
His passion of materials was shaped by his childhood in Rwanda, Cameroon, Turkey and Switzerland, where he spent a lot of time outdoors in search of adventure. From an early age, he experimented with collected materials, exploring new paths far off the beaten track. The local crafts and materials he encountered left a deep mark and still inspire his work today.
Thanks to collaboration, it is a privilege for him to endlessly learn from renowned brands such as Vitra, Marsotto Edizioni, l'Epée, Aesop and Hérmes as well as experienced craftspeople such as Fonderie Brügger or Klötzli Messerschmied.
