Discovering Design Communities – DESIGN WEEK TURKEY
The Adorno Design Collaboration presents the exhibition, “Discovering Design Communities – A curated design journey across the globe” at Design Week Turkey in Istanbul from the 8th to the 12 of November at the Lütfi Kırdar Congress Center in Harbiye that will showcase designers whose culturally relevant work truly defines their local communities: Sao Paolo, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan, Barcelona, Mexico City, Madrid, Berlin, and London. These designers have all become meaningful members of Adorno International Design Collaboration, an online collaborative platform for collectible design.
Design critic and historian Gökhan Karakuş, the Istanbul curator of ADORNO has selected the pieces exhibited based on a critical understanding of global trends in design. The complete design collections of each region can be viewed on a monitor at the exhibition. Karakuş’ comments on his selection “Each of the objects here are examples of the dynamics of local design communities. We have selected these collectible design objects to show examples of groundbreaking design that is being created around the world and shown on the digital platform of ADORNO.”
The exhibition presents a unique opportunity to get a first-hand insight of what’s trending right now in 11 design communities around the world. Each of the unique objects on exhibition sheds light on design communities and the role of designers as makers that enable local fabrication networks to grow.
The digital platform of the ADORNO collaboration presents a unique opportunity designers to present their work on the international design scene and to reach collectors around the world directly. This exhibition will focus on how this connection between local design communities to an international market is achieved through Adorno’s platform creating collective value for local designers and the fabrication network in various regions around the world.
