Curatorial Statement
We are forced to live through screens. Things that should be touched, smelt, hugged, hit with a baseball bat, we can only see them now. Not even see them, but pixels forming images of them with the help of a computer brain.
Suddenly, you understand how much you miss human interaction in general, the mundane details of it. Like going shopping, a most banal experience. Walking into the store, looking at stuff, choosing something you like, taking it to the cashier, taking it home, making it a part of your life, or a part of yourself even, if it’s food. We’re in a new situation, where making a relationship with an object is changing.
In design, this new way of forming a relationship with the environment is manifesting most clearly. Estonian design has always been in touch with its traditions and roots, focused on being real; doing the job without fuss and pathos. Now we’re approaching a new era, in which objects and designs have to be louder and more intricate to get attention.
