Description

Ectotherm is a needle-felted tapestry from the collection named “I Saw, I Felt” consisting of five unique pieces, by Mmh Objects.

The “I Saw, I Felt” collection came to life in Oaxaca, Mexico, where the tapestries were designed and created during two artist residencies at a felting workshop located in the mountains of San Agustín Etla.
The felting workshop is part of the textile museum Centro de las Artes and was originally established by the respected Mexican painter and artist, Francisco Toledo and his wife, the Danish textile artist Trine Ellitsgaard.

Each tapestry is a unique interpretation of Mexican symbols and architecture mixed with Scandinavian minimalism. They act as portals to a parallel universe where distorted geometry and surreal figures coexist. “I Saw, I Felt” is a tribute to the Oaxacan textile tradition and craftsmanship. The red hues are carefully composed and uphold the ancient Zapotec dyeing technique extracted from the cochineal insects.

The needle-felted technique offers a surprisingly accurate output; it almost feels like drawing with wool and adds depth and vibrancy to the woolen surface. The piece is entirely hand-crafted in collaboration with local artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico. It is made from 100% sheep wool hand-dyed with natural pigments from cochineal and indigo.

How to handle:

The hanging system is attached to the backside.

Please don’t vacuum or use a lint roller on the tapestry; instead, use your fingers to remove hair or dust carefully. It can be beaten gently, but the wool fibers can detach from the backing if handled too roughly.
