Description

Ten feathers playing around a sun disk – The Ikarus Mobile by Luca Gruber is inspired by the story of Ikarus coming too close to the sun. The wax holding his wings together had melted already away from the sun’s heat, and now his golden feathers orbited gently in space around the sun, visualizing a feeling of lightness and movement. The whole mobile is made from hand-shaped sheet metal polished brass in the workshop of Carl Auböck V. in Vienna and was created as a commission for a client in the US.

The mobile can be also made in different finishings and other sheet metals like copper or aluminum.

About Luca Gruber Visit Showroom →

Dedicated to the creation of sacral quality in his objects, Gruber's work spans a variety of product categories in a continuous dialogue with craftsmanship excellence, traditional manufacturing techniques and refined materials. His narratives arise from the poetic exploration of materials and from mythological and anthropological imagery. His practice is rooted in excellence. He matured a sensibility towards high-end craftmanship during his years of apprenticeship at Bodo Sperlein’s and Ini Archibong’s studios, before opening his namesake studio in 2022. His current collaborations include Carl Auböck and J. & L. Lobmeyr. Through each of his objects, Gruber attempts at realising tangible phenomena of poetry: in contrast to our fast-paced era, he celebrates care and dedication, that of the craftsmen who refine every detail of his pieces. Carving, funneling, welding, polishing odes to men’s labour and skills.
