Guillaume Thireau is a designer with a passion for materials. He grew up in the wood shavings of his father, a woodworker, and his mother, a seamstress. He chose an artistic education, graduating with a degree in visual arts from the University of Rennes 2. He continued his education specialising in design at the Beaux Arts in Brest and Rennes, where he obtained a bachelor's degree (DNAP) and a master's degree (DNSEP). Since, he has been working at the frontiers of art and design and design, focusing on materials and volumes, creating small collections of object, unique pieces, and larger-scale installations.
Attached to sensitive materials, charged with meaning and full of history, that make up our everyday environments, Guillaume Thireau applies to show through his work what they can reveal. His relation to the work of materials, especially the wood, brings a certain sensitivity to his projects that contrasts with the minimalist aesthetic sometimes brutalist which emerges from it. Through radical forms and large volumes, Guillaume tries to show nature of these materials, sometimes pushing them to their limits. He questions their identities, their folklores, to bring us back memories that speak to us, making his expressive projects according to different contexts.
