Description

“Walking on needles” is a “shelf-piece” of handmade ceramic, treated with the ancient technique Terra-Sigilatta as finish. It is animatedly shaped like a needle-head on legs, inspired by an old Japanese tradition “Hari-Kuyō”, which, in short terms, is a funeral for needles. You put an old or broken needle to rest in something soft – for example, tofu – to show gratitude to the work the needle has done and to make sure its last task is a comfortable one. This tradition is, therefore, also an acknowledgement of the spirits of objects, an understanding of objects as “living”, a recurring theme for the artist Sisse Holst Pedersen.
