Description

There is nothing better than a volcano to represent the pure energy of the matter. The power of nature is a steady element of Pietro Russo’s work: with its eclectic research, the taste for imperfection and unfinished, the selections of raw materials. It is not about inspiration, but it is rather a matter of empathy, transference, deep sharing.
The Vulcano lamp evokes the Aeolian islands in southern Italy, a place much loved by the designer where there are still two active volcanoes named Stromboli and Vulcano. As a true alchemist, Russo reproduced the presence of a volcano not only with the clear shape and the strong materials selected, but above all with the use of light, play of reflections and light refraction passing through the glass.

Pietro Russo Design
Working with painting, ceramics decoration, set-design, followed by design and architecture: this is the pathway Pietro Russo explored before he entered the world of design. In 2001 he moved to Milan, where he collaborated with Lissoni Associati for companies like Alessi, Cappellini, Kartell, Tecno Spa and, still with Lissoni, as interior designer for Benetton, Kerakoll Design Gallery. He founded his own studio: Pietro Russo Design in 2010. His passion for craftsmanship led him to start researcing and re-inventing traditional production techniques. His design projects, where interiors are seen as scenic space, and the creation of new products are the result of this vision, combining scenic design with craftsmanship. Since 2015 he began a collaboration with some Companies: Baxter, Gallotti & Radice, Editions Milano, Ichendorf Milano, for which he developed lamps and other furnishings.
