SOFT TARGETS are a series of hollow man sized objects more sculptures than furniture that offer an immediate escape from the surroundings. If ‚Soft Target’ is an expression used for persons unprotected or vulnerable, these inhabitable sculptures provide that protection, as a temporary hideaway where one can regenerate. Abstract, geo metrical, and with its mirroring surface, they are also meant to submerge in their surroundings, enhancing the feeling that one is invisible and safe. Reflecting on a term referring to an existential situation in a more than unsafe, if not war struck surrounding, SOFT TARGETS is not to be understood as a political statement (which would be at least presumptuous).
The questions implied are rather general: what are the needs with which we are encountering an object, what would an object have to be like to offer a certain protection (and what kind of protection), what might be the relation between surface, visibility and the space an object defines?

Soft Target is wall-mounted and can be accessed through an opening at the bottom. It is designed to merge with its environment and disperse attention away from its occupant. Geometrical and with a mirrored surface, they are meant to blend into their surroundings, enhancing the feeling of invisibility and safety.
