Philipp Weber explores the possibilities of a new glassblowing tool which he developed in an earlier project entitled A Strange Symphony.
A trumpet-shaped glassblowing pipe enables the craftsman to shape the inner cavities of the glass. The addition of several valves at the top of the pipe allows the glassblower to introduce multiple air chambers inside of the piece, as opposed to the one chamber possible with a conventional pipe. These separated spaces create seemingly infinite light refractions which are further accented with a spare use of color. The result is a visually stunning piece that almost deceives perception.
This project is ongoing and can be understood as a study of light and color in glass.
