Description

This is a serie of three combs in Large, Medium and Small. The engraved pattern is first completed with a composition where the combs are placed on top of each other in a certain order. As a reference to the different layers and combinations existing within us, the layers often misunderstood.

Inspired by the story of Mille, a Swede with Ethiopian heritage this pattern takes inspiration from traditional Ethiopian patterns framed in geometrical shapes that refers to functionalism aesthetics.

Made out of frosted acrylic, designed to add volume to afro hair the ”Mille” comb is one out of eight combs in the Afropicks collection.

Profile Photo
Simon Skinner
Simon Skinner is a young Swedish designer based in Stockholm. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Konstfack University 2018. His work offers new ways to approach norms and cultures in a sustainable way. Playfulness and curiosity is the core in Simon Skinners approach to design. As a mixed race Swede with Afro-Caribbean roots Simon Skinner is inspired to investigate the identity among people living in between different cultures at the same time. This often becomes a fusion where values, functions and expressions are being mixed in to everyday objects. His latest project Afropicks (winner of the Young Swedish Design Awards) highlights the need of afro hair combs and puts the symbolic value of black power and beauty into a Swedish context, also questioning the perception of ”Swedishness”. Now represented at Nationalmuseum.
is the Adorno curator of design destination Stockholm. Mille by Simon Skinner is carefully selected as a piece that reflects the local design scene of Stockholm. As a local and recognized design expert 's curation is a quality assurance that buying from Simon Skinner is a safe investment in the most important design from Stockholm right now.
