“La Donnina” black glazed ceramic vase. Curiosity to experiment with hand-made ceramics and finishes gave rise to the project “Associations,” which creates objects and vases. The project draws on ancient heritage, combining shapes of classical simplicity with allusions to the designs of the whimsical Italian artist Gino de Dominicis. The result is a kind of juxtaposition of volumes and finishes. The objects impinge on each other. Their projections evoke collective memory rather than design features. Volumes vary and the proportions also differ. The shapes are primitive but extremely expressive. The look harks back to some craft productions of the 1970s. The finishes are also applied in juxtaposition: jet black rubs shoulders with coarse pebble white. White and red earth intermingle in an effect akin to marbling. The classic crackling is revived and combined with bright electric blue. This completes the setting of the stage for this experiment, for this project is an ongoing experiment rather than a design solution. Its purpose is tentative; its language simple and sensual.
